We’ve all got them. People we’re connected to on LinkedIn whose status updates are less than interesting. Maybe you have a connection whose every tweet appears in their status updates, or who posts nothing but sales messages.
It may be tempting to disconnect from these people, but they may still be useful business contacts (after all, not everyone in business knows LinkedIn best practice). So how can you clear your feed of all those tweets and sales messages?
It’s actually quite simple.
- Hover your mouse in the upper right hand corner of a status update by someone whose updates you want to turn off.
- The word “Hide” appears. Click on it to permanently remove all updates by that person from your feed.
If you change your mind and want to reveal those updates again, this is a bit more complicated:
- Above the status updates on your home page, click on ‘More’ and then ‘Customize’ from the drop-down menu that appears.
- This takes you to your settings page.
- Click on the ‘Account’ tab towards the bottom of the page and then click on the ‘Customize the updates you see on your home page’ link.
- In the box that appears, click the ‘Hidden’ tab and click on ‘Show updates’ next to the people you want to see again.
And if you want to make sure people don’t silence your updates, a very good first step is to stop sending all your tweets to LinkedIn. I’m giving it a week, and anyone who doesn’t do this will be hidden from my feed – let’s see who’s paying attention!
